Johnson Service Group is seeking a Purchasing Manager for one of our clients located in San Jose, CA. The Purchasing Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the procurement of raw materials, components, and services essential for the production of electronic assemblies. This position emphasizes strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and ensuring that procurement activities are in sync with production schedules and cost objectives. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team of buyers and work closely with engineering, production, and quality departments to ensure seamless operations in a fast-paced Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment. In this role, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for leading and prioritizing tasks within the purchasing team to ensure efficient procurement operations. They will set performance targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team, tracking metrics to reduce costs and enhance effectiveness. Mentoring and developing the procurement staff will be a key focus, promoting continuous improvement in skills and performance. The Purchasing Manager will also perform cost and scenario analysis, benchmarking to support strategic decision-making, and assess, manage, and mitigate procurement risks. Monitoring supplier performance to ensure compliance with delivery, quality, and pricing commitments is essential. The Purchasing Manager will develop and execute procurement strategies aimed at optimizing cost, quality, and delivery timelines. Building and maintaining relationships with key suppliers and vendors for electronic components, PCBs, and other materials will be critical to the success of this role. Additionally, the Purchasing Manager will ensure that materials are procured in alignment with production schedules while avoiding overstock and bottlenecks. Implementing efficient inventory management systems to balance lead times and minimize excess inventory will also be part of the responsibilities. Regular stock level reviews and managing reorder points based on forecasted demand will be necessary to maintain operational efficiency. The Purchasing Manager will analyze market trends and supplier pricing to inform procurement strategies and lead cost-reduction initiatives such as value engineering and alternative sourcing. Reporting on procurement performance, cost savings, and budget variances to senior management will be a regular task. Ensuring all purchased materials comply with industry regulations, company quality standards, and customer specifications is paramount. The Purchasing Manager will identify and mitigate supply chain risks through alternative sourcing and long-term agreements, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, including sourcing RoHS and REACH-compliant components. Conducting supplier audits and performance evaluations to foster continuous improvement and alignment with company goals will also be part of the role. Finally, the Purchasing Manager will resolve supplier-related issues, such as quality or delivery problems, in a timely manner and perform other related tasks as assigned, following company procedures and customer requirements.
