About the position

The Electrical Purchasing Manager / Estimator is responsible for estimating, developing scopes of work, pricing, and procuring subcontractors for high voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) installation projects. This role focuses on power transmission and substation construction projects across various customers in the United States, ensuring effective cost management and subcontractor relationships.

Responsibilities

• Solicit subcontractors and develop project costs for proposals and projects related to the electrical installation scope of work on GIS substation projects.
• Subcontract the GIS installation scope of high voltage substation projects, including negotiating price, scope, and terms with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with relevant subcontractors.
• Accurately interpret preliminary electrical drawings provided by engineering and create project cost estimates.
• Collaborate with subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and internal teams to support detailed cost calculations for proposals.

Requirements

• BS degree preferably in Engineering or Business Management
• 5+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant work experience in Power Transmission, Substation, or Electrical Construction
• Experience in purchasing and estimating in the electrical construction industry
• Knowledge of electrical systems and components used in high voltage substation construction
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
