About the position

The Purchasing Manager will oversee the purchasing operations, collaborating with various departments to enhance product design and optimize supplier relationships. This role focuses on developing purchasing strategies that reduce costs while ensuring material quality, leading the Purchasing Team, and managing daily activities to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scheduling/engineering to support new product design.
  • Manage and optimize purchasing activities for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage supplier relationships from sourcing through contract negotiation.
  • Develop, monitor, and improve purchasing strategies to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
  • Lead the Purchasing Team, overseeing daily activities, performance feedback, and training.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Material Resource Planning Software.
  • Coordinate with Operations Leadership to manage inventory needs.
  • Coordinate material delivery to meet manufacturing needs.
  • Collaborate with departments to maximize cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Issue and enter purchase orders, ensuring delivery meets expectations.
  • Negotiate with suppliers regarding pricing and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain supplier metrics.
  • Engage in global sourcing with some domestic travel.
  • Attend vendor visits with the Quality Department for supplier evaluations.
  • Serve as primary backup within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4-7 years of experience in Procurement/Supply-Chain Management in Manufacturing.
  • 5-7 years of purchasing experience preferred, especially with metals, castings, and electrical components.
  • Proficient in MRP/ERP software.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong personal work ethic and a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
