About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Coastal Pet Products, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the procurement department to ensure cost-effective and high-quality purchasing. This role involves contract negotiations, maintaining supplier relationships, and aligning inventory status with operational and financial goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement and a passion for driving continuous improvement to meet departmental KPIs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure fill rate metrics are met according to company goals.
• Oversee raw material supply and cost objectives by establishing and controlling inventories.
• Investigate variances from planned targets and establish their root cause.
• Formulate and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate with managers and peers to fulfill internal and external customer requirements.
• Meet regularly with manufacturing and sales departments to provide supply chain perspective.
• Review supplier performance and product quality.
• Identify and address supply chain risks by assessing vendor capabilities.
• Stay updated on market trends and new products.
• Develop a winning team with the skills and cross-training needed to achieve departmental goals.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading a large SKU/high volume purchasing department.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, and associates.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel) and MRP systems.
• Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
• 4-year degree preferred in supply chain, operations, or equivalent.
