About the position

The Purchasing Manager at U.S. Electrical Services, Inc. (USESI) is responsible for overseeing the company's purchasing activities, improving vendor relationships, and managing the purchasing team. This role involves collaborating with inventory control and sales to maintain optimal inventory levels, training staff on best practices, and evaluating suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness. The Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in developing strategies to manage obsolete stock and communicating with regional presidents regarding performance and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Propose improvements to the current purchasing system to enhance vendor relationships and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with inventory control and sales to develop metrics for inventory level needs and maintain those levels throughout the year.
  • Lead initiatives to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to offset losses.
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure purchasing agents meet performance standards.
  • Train buyers and sales on best practices using the inventory control system.
  • Evaluate suppliers, maintain contracts, negotiate prices, and review product quality and delivery performance.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key vendors.
  • Identify and source new suppliers and vendors.
  • Manage risks related to quality, cost, delivery, and supply of purchases.
  • Manage and develop the purchasing team.
  • Communicate with regional presidents on goals, vendors, and performance.

Requirements

  • College Degree preferred
  • 3+ years of electrical product knowledge and previous management experience
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong process orientation and systems-thinking capability
  • Attentiveness to detail coupled with problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all organizational members
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel to other office locations (10% - 15% travel)
