About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Meritage Homes is responsible for leading the Purchasing department, ensuring that all purchasing actions align with divisional goals and business plans. This role involves directing purchasing agents, managing trade partner relationships, overseeing the bidding process, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. The Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in cost management, product development, and team training, contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining the direction of the Purchasing department and ensure alignment with divisional goals.
  • Direct all purchasing agents within the team and ensure alignment with their duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure all purchasing actions meet company policies and procedures and are audit-ready.
  • Align trade partner requirements with divisional business plan requirements and communicate business needs effectively.
  • Incorporate regular field time to understand trade performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with centralized purchasing to bid new communities and validate architectural plans.
  • Oversee the contracting process to ensure vendor compliance with company mandates.
  • Develop a monthly process to validate base costs and ensure accurate entry into the system.
  • Drive value-engineering efforts to ensure cost-effective products and maximize rebate collection.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction purchasing and estimating experience in the homebuilding industry required.
  • Management experience leading people highly preferred.
  • Experience with JD-Edwards, E1 or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other construction documents.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Good problem/conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence others.

Nice-to-haves
