About the position

As a Purchasing Manager at KB Home, you will provide supervision and leadership for functions related to the Purchasing department, ensuring that all purchasing tasks are managed effectively. This role is crucial as you will act as a key facilitator for both internal and external customers, addressing all matters related to the purchasing scope of work. Your responsibilities will include managing trade partner relationships, overseeing contracting, bidding, negotiating, and processing approvals. You will also be tasked with resolving any subcontractor, supplier, or production issues that may arise, ensuring that the purchasing function runs smoothly and efficiently. In addition to managing purchasing tasks, you will conduct budget analysis and participate in the development of product specifications. You will maintain online bidding systems such as KBTPO and Buzzsaw, manage builder rebate programs with vendors, and assist in resolving payment issues with trade partners. Your role will require you to support various internal departments, including Studio, Production/Operations, Land, and Sales, ensuring that their needs are met relative to the Purchasing function. You will interact with NAPA to track and collect rebates, review and approve subcontract agreements, and provide timely updates to management on current projects and areas needing attention. Performance management will also be a key aspect of your role, as you will recruit, staff, train, and retain purchasing agents or administrators. You will identify performance gaps and offer solutions to address them, ensuring that all required training is completed and performance reviews are conducted. Additionally, you will develop and implement purchasing policies and procedures, manage the approval process for starts, contract changes, and field purchase orders, and represent the SW region to the National Contracts/Purchasing department. Your responsibilities will also include assisting with WRAP insurance rate renewals and providing direct cost estimates for proposed land acquisitions, while ensuring compliance with Energy Star, code updates, and EPG.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or applicable work experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of Purchasing experience in the Real Estate or Homebuilding industry.
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of residential construction and components required to construct single-family and multi-family homes.
  • Skills required to analyze direct costs to maintain or improve budgets.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with a high level of organization.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to negotiate contracts.
  • Cooperative attitude at all times.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical aptitude.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to direct reports.
  • Skills to offer support to management as needed or requested.
  • Professional interaction with all levels of internal and external customers.
