About the position

The Purchasing Manager at AVW Equipment plays a vital role in the company's manufacturing operations by overseeing inventory management and vendor relationships. This position is responsible for ensuring that high-quality materials are purchased at the best prices, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective inventory management strategies to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing excess or shortage risks.
  • Collaborate with other departments and leadership to identify needs for equipment, materials, and services.
  • Assess current material availability and predict future availability based on market conditions and delivery systems.
  • Implement cost controls using commodity segmentation, vendor KPIs, and cost justification based on key market indicators.
  • Manage all aspects of the RFQ process, contracts, cost negotiations, and awarding of business.
  • Manage outbound vendor services and third-party vendors to expand the range of commodities needed to support manufacturing.
  • Oversee relationships with vendors, conducting regular performance reviews and routine check-ins to ensure compliance with delivery and inventory reporting.
  • Lead the procurement process, including identifying suitable vendors, obtaining quotes, and making purchase decisions.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, prices, and market conditions to anticipate material needs and availability; direct purchasing activities accordingly.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve problems regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
  • Set authorization limits where needed and purchase large and complex items.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in Supply Chain Management
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
  • Proven experience in a procurement role, with a focus on inventory management
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost savings and improving procurement and inventory efficiency
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement and inventory management software and systems
