About the position

United Petfood is a private label producer of high-quality dry and wet pet food, biscuits, and snacks. As a Purchasing Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our procurement operations, ensuring that we maintain strong supplier relationships and secure the best materials for our products. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in the feed or pet food industry, with a deep understanding of packaging materials and suppliers. This position requires strategic thinking and excellent organizational skills to develop and implement procurement strategies that align with our company objectives. You will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of quality materials and products. In this role, you will monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production and sales teams to forecast needs, ensuring optimal stock levels. You will analyze market trends and supplier pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities while implementing cost control measures without compromising quality. Quality assurance is also a key aspect of this position, as you will ensure that all purchased materials and products meet our company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements. Regular supplier audits and quality checks will be part of your responsibilities to maintain high standards. Additionally, you will source and manage packaging materials, staying updated on the latest innovations and regulations in packaging. Data analysis and reporting will be essential, as you will maintain accurate procurement records and generate reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, quality assurance, and marketing, will be necessary to align procurement activities with product development and business goals. You will also need to identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to procurement and supplier management.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or in a similar role within the feed or pet food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
  • Experience with packaging materials and suppliers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is desirable.
