About the position

The Purchasing Manager at PSSI is responsible for managing all procurement activities related to Safe Foods Chemical Innovations. This role involves leading a team of Buyers and Purchasing Agents, evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring a consistent flow of materials to support production. The Purchasing Manager will also develop supply chain strategies and maintain performance metrics to optimize procurement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all procurement related activities for Safe Foods Chemical Innovations.
  • Plan and oversee the work of Buyers and Purchasing Agents.
  • Evaluate and ensure quality, price, and reliability of suppliers.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts and agreements.
  • Evaluate and train staff involved in procurement activities.
  • Coordinate with fellow managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs.
  • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for procurement activities.
  • Report to management on supplier performance and corrective actions.
  • Negotiate and execute purchase orders or vendor contracts as needed.
  • Manage material flow to ensure optimal inventory levels for production schedules.
  • Develop and implement commodity/supply chain strategies.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and develop a competitive vendor base.
  • Manage materials savings initiatives in line with business objectives.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of purchasing experience in the chemical industry.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Active driver's license.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong people management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in a strategic procurement position specific to chemicals and raw materials.
  • Experience with selecting and qualifying chemical vendors.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and chemical applications.
  • General knowledge of regulatory rules and guidelines for chemicals (EPA, FDA, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience working with 3rd party contract manufacturers/tollers.
