About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Drees Homes is responsible for overseeing the purchasing operations within the Dallas, TX division. This role involves managing pricing, contract administration, bid processes, and insurance/legal claims, ensuring that the company maintains a competitive cost position while fostering positive relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. The Purchasing Manager will analyze costs, negotiate contracts, and implement pricing strategies to enhance profitability and efficiency in home building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze costs of contractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Initiate procurement of bids from subcontractors and vendors and conduct cost analysis.
  • Recommend changes to vendors based on cost analysis and performance.
  • Prepare and manage all contract documents for new and existing vendors.
  • Negotiate and secure new vendors with input from construction and production managers.
  • Analyze budgets and job costs for accuracy to eliminate errors and variances.
  • Maintain a cost system for preliminary costing of new products and changes.
  • Coordinate bids for new products to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform cost analysis on existing and new plans for efficiency.
  • Assist in administering promotional and volume discounts.
  • Monitor products and implement pricing strategies for profitable upgrades.
  • Work with Customer Care and Production Manager for prompt service from subcontractors.
  • Manage legal issues involving subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Expedite settlements and payments related to insurance/warranty issues.
  • Monitor subcontractor/supplier statements to ensure current invoices and payments.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of purchasing, operations, or field management experience with a residential homebuilder.
  • 5+ years of purchasing or operations experience with a homebuilder preferred.
  • Local Dallas market experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with JDEdwards or similar software.
  • Knowledge of the DFW vendor base and a solid network within the industry is a plus.
  • 4-year college degree in a related field.
