About the position

The Purchasing Manager will play a crucial role in the procurement process, ensuring that the company acquires the necessary products and materials to support its operations. This position involves determining which products to buy based on various inputs, including running reports, collaborating with the Receiving Clerk, and consulting with the Production Manager. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for issuing and managing purchase orders for both raw materials and purchased items, ensuring that the company maintains a steady supply of high-quality goods at competitive prices. A key aspect of this role is negotiating with vendors to secure the best prices for high-quality goods. The Purchasing Manager will focus on a 'just in time' purchasing schedule, which requires close coordination with production scheduling to ensure that materials are available when needed without overstocking. Additionally, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for cross-checking received goods against purchase orders and invoices, submitting accurate documentation to the accounting department for payment processing. The Purchasing Manager will also maintain a database that tracks price changes, lead times, and vendor information, which is essential for making informed purchasing decisions. Regular review of sales orders will be part of the responsibilities to ensure alignment with inventory levels and production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Issue Purchase Order for the product and place the orders.
  • Negotiate contracts to get the best price for the highest quality of goods and services.
  • Keep track of inventory, monitor shortages, and send out shortage report to appropriate staff.
  • Upon receipt of invoices, cross check with Purchase Orders for correct pricing.
  • Maintain database on price change of parts, lead times and vendors.
  • Review sales orders.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of purchasing or buying experience.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Proficient in using the Internet for searching catalogs and industry publications.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and sales orders.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English and performing math calculations including fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and adhere to safety rules.
