About the position

The Purchasing Manager at MTY Builders Inc. is a pivotal role that requires a strong work ethic, proactivity, and self-motivation. This position is not entry-level; it demands leadership qualities and excellent organizational and coordination skills. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office and integrated purchasing accounting software, and will work closely with a team dedicated to delivering quality products on schedule and within budget. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for placing orders with suppliers for production materials to meet quick demand and turnaround times. This includes providing administrative support, processing correspondence, data entry, and maintaining various reports and vendor files. The role also involves monitoring the status of open orders to ensure timely delivery of materials, resolving issues as they arise, and collaborating to develop a schedule for receiving shipments. Daily responsibilities include receiving and processing material deliveries, verifying items against purchase orders, maintaining an organized inventory, and preparing orders for contractors. The Purchasing Manager must ensure a clean and organized work environment while accounting for the location of received materials and ensuring no damaged items are accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Support with placing orders with suppliers for production materials as required to meet quick demand and turnaround times.
  • Provide administrative support including processing of correspondence from rough or revised drafts, data entry, preparations and/or maintenance of miscellaneous reports and vendor files.
  • Monitor the status of open orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication, and mitigation of future potential problems.
  • Collaborate to develop a schedule to receive the shipment of goods.
  • Receive and process material deliveries daily, including verification of delivered items/quantities, unloading trucks, ensuring items are stored correctly and processing needed returns.
  • Confirm all received materials match the purchase orders.
  • Set up and maintain an item master list for inventory keeping.
  • Promptly account for the location of materials received, assuring no damaged items are received.
  • Prepare orders/packages for pick-up by contractors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a buyer/planner/material scheduler role.
  • Must be bilingual in English & Spanish.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and warehousing disciplines.
  • Proficient in MS Office - advanced skills with MS Excel.
  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Previous construction purchasing experience is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Negotiation experience (1 year preferred).
  • Purchasing experience (2 years preferred).
