About the position

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee the Purchasing Department and manage all sourcing for equipment, goods, and services. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for performing strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, seeking the best possible contracts, and identifying the most profitable suppliers and vendors. This role is crucial in ensuring that the company maintains its competitive edge in the homebuilding market by effectively managing purchasing strategies and vendor relationships. The Purchasing Manager will develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies that align with the company's goals. This includes managing the bid process for architectural plans to subcontractors and vendors, tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness, and crafting negotiation strategies to close deals with optimal terms. The role requires close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation and to forecast price and market trends, identifying changes in the balance of buyer-supplier power. In addition to these responsibilities, the Purchasing Manager will perform cost and scenario analysis, benchmarking, and risk management. They will seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers, determine the quantity and timing of deliveries, monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand, and create budgets for upcoming projects while managing costs of existing projects. The Purchasing Manager is expected to conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and enhance the goodwill and profit of the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; preferably in supply Chain Management, Logistics or Business Administration
  • Five to eight years of related experience and/or training as Purchasing Manager, Agent or Officer
  • Proven experience with sourcing, negotiation and vendor management
  • Ability to gather and analyze data
  • Possess strong leadership skills and networking capabilities
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond and draw valid conclusions
  • Displays regular interest in market dynamics along with business sense
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
