About the position

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the sourcing and purchasing of essential materials for the company's operations. This role involves researching suppliers, negotiating contracts, and developing inventory controls to ensure timely delivery of materials while minimizing inventory levels. The Purchasing Manager will utilize Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems to generate accurate supply plans and maintain supplier relationships to achieve the best value and quality for the company.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the process of sourcing and purchasing essential materials for operations.
  • Research raw materials suppliers and compare costs.
  • Negotiate purchasing agreements and develop inventory controls.
  • Analyze and negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and purchase orders for various materials and services.
  • Utilize MRP information to determine order quantities and generate supply plans for raw materials.
  • Identify and select suppliers that provide the best value and quality.
  • Enter and maintain purchasing data in the ERP system.
  • Conduct material planning analyses using orders, forecasts, and inventory levels.
  • Assist Innovation with information and material samples for product development.
  • Evaluate performance and financial status of new suppliers for approval.
  • Establish documentation to confirm approved supplier status.
  • Research supplier sources and technical assistance.
  • Ensure necessary insurance certificates for suppliers are on file.
  • Complete and distribute quarterly supplier scorecards.
  • Conduct half-year business reviews with key suppliers.
  • Facilitate resolution of defective material issues through the SCAR process.
  • Support change control procedures for supplier changes.
  • Expedite overdue deliveries of purchased materials and services.
  • Ensure receipt of expected credits or replacements from suppliers.
  • Represent the company in negotiations with external suppliers.
  • Offer suggestions to improve the purchasing function.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in purchasing, business, supply chain management or related field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in sourcing raw materials and MRO items in an ERP-driven manufacturing company.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated performance in negotiations with suppliers.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop computing systems and ERP systems (preferably Oracle).
  • Microsoft suite and Excel capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing contract law.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a track record of delivering benefits to purchasing and the business.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing operations and related processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with associates and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently or in team environments.
  • Strong decision-making skills to evaluate options and take action.
  • Knowledge in evaluating performance and quality of suppliers.
