About the position

The Purchasing Manager at the Food Bank of Central New York is responsible for overseeing the procurement of food and related supplies, ensuring quality control, and managing vendor relationships. This role is crucial for the efficient operation of the food bank, enabling it to fulfill its mission of alleviating hunger in the community. The Purchasing Manager will collaborate with various teams, negotiate contracts, and implement the Food$en$e program, while also managing budgets and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement of food and related supplies for the food bank.
  • Oversee the Food$en$e program, ensuring quality control and accurate product delivery.
  • Collaborate with Agency Relations, Operations, and Procurement teams on product distribution.
  • Coordinate and manage product donations, serving as the liaison for the Salvation Army Christmas Bureau.
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage vendor relations through meetings, phone calls, and email communication.
  • Monitor and manage budget lines for wholesale food and grants.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit all written records and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Conduct training and onboarding for new accounts for oversight programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in the food industry or supply chain management is preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete food safety certification within the first 30 days.
