About the position

The Purchasing Manager will oversee and execute the day-to-day purchasing activities of the company, ensuring that the material needs of the organization are managed efficiently and effectively. This role involves leading purchasing strategies, managing vendor relationships, and improving operational processes to support the business's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, leading and executing purchasing strategies in accordance with customer schedules and the needs of the business.
  • Crafting negotiation strategies and closing deals with optimal terms and pricing with suppliers.
  • Managing vendors according to contractual agreements.
  • Analyzing costs, mitigating risks, and determining optimal delivery quantities and timings.
  • Tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Participating in efforts among sales, operations, engineering, technology, and customer service functions to produce smoother workflow and more cost-effective business processes.
  • Implementing policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.
  • Communicating and explaining new directives, policies, or procedures to employees; for major changes, meeting with other functions to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
  • Projecting a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership capabilities, negotiation skills, and analytical abilities.
  • 10 years minimum working with enterprise ERP systems.
  • ERP install experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with all material replenishment methods including kanban, vendor and customer managed inventory, ERP interactions, min-max setting, and MRP.
  • Experience with sourcing and vendor management.
  • Possess business sense and be proficient in gathering and analyzing data.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with project planning.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be collaborative and operate well in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related purchasing and people management experience.
