About the position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchasing Manager to oversee the procurement process, ensuring that all purchasing activities align with company goals and budgetary constraints. This role requires strong negotiation skills and a thorough understanding of supply chain management to effectively manage vendor relationships and optimize inventory levels.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all materials are properly purchased and scheduled to meet internal and external customer requirements.
  • Maintain an accurate part maintenance database and vendor management system.
  • Manage a team of buyers/planners to ensure all products and materials are purchased and received to support successful delivery of products.
  • Negotiate contracts and place purchase orders as needed to support the organization's delivery and cost goals/objectives.
  • Create a system to ensure that the Planning Group and manufacturing is properly supported and kept well informed of material issues.
  • Ensure that all P.O.s are accurate and materials are purchased in the most cost-effective, timely manner and approve P.O.s up to the authorized dollar amount.
  • Create a proactive system to ensure all materials are received on time from suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensure materials purchased do not exceed standard and quoted costs.
  • Develop and support the Supply Base Management System.
  • Develop relations with key suppliers while improving terms and conditions to AE.
  • Provide support to the Sales Department by providing accurate and timely quote data for new jobs.
  • Maintain accurate standard cost, material lead times, supplier data and all other necessary data in the ERP database required to support MRP.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvements required to maintain AS9100, Lean Manufacturing and Job Costing as they apply to the department.
  • Ensure all history of P.O.s, contracts and quotations are properly maintained.
  • Ensure month end closing is properly performed and completed in a timely manner to support the Accounting Department.
  • Ensure all departmental processes and personnel are being measured on critical metrics that impact performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • 3 years of experience with Lean manufacturing.
  • 3 years of experience with negotiation.
  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft Word.
  • 5 years of experience in Purchasing (preferred).
  • Prior Management/Supervisory experience is highly desired.
  • Thorough understanding and extensive work experience in Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Thorough understanding and extensive work experience in Purchasing and supplier development.
  • Thorough understanding and extensive work experience in Inventory Management and analysis.
  • Effective written and verbal communication ability.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized and efficient in time-management.
