About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Meritage Homes is responsible for leading the Purchasing department in the Huntsville Division, ensuring that all purchasing actions align with divisional goals and business plans. This role involves directing purchasing agents, making strategic decisions to enhance operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with company policies and audit requirements. The Purchasing Manager also collaborates with trade partners, oversees bidding processes, and manages product and budget-related tasks to drive cost-effective solutions and support the overall business strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all purchasing agents within the team and ensure alignment with their duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure all purchasing actions meet company policies and are audit-ready.
  • Align trade partner requirements with divisional business plans and communicate business needs effectively.
  • Incorporate field time to assess trade performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage trade partner performance in collaboration with construction and customer care teams.
  • Resolve contract issues with trade partners and ensure effective bidding processes for new communities.
  • Validate architectural plans and ensure timely documentation for bids.
  • Oversee the contracting process to ensure vendor compliance with company mandates.
  • Drive value-engineering efforts to reduce costs and maximize rebate collection.
  • Train purchasing coordinators and agents to ensure they understand their roles and contributions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction purchasing and estimating experience in the homebuilding industry required.
  • Management experience leading people highly preferred.
  • Experience with JD-Edwards, E1 or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other construction documents.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to explain complex issues in an understandable manner to industry personnel and customers.
  • Good problem/conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence others positively.
  • Good leadership skills; ability to set priorities and manage projects effectively.
