About the position

The Horticultural Product Manager at Schilling's Garden Market is responsible for overseeing the research, acquisition, and promotion of nursery products. This full-time position requires extensive knowledge of landscape plants and strong inventory management skills, ensuring the nursery maintains high standards of product quality and supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and establish relationships with reliable suppliers of nursery stock.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers.
  • Monitor market trends and industry developments.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and quality.
  • Maximize profit margins through effective purchasing procedures.
  • Coordinate product delivery and collaborate with the operations team.
  • Develop and maintain inventory plans based on sales forecasts.
  • Implement inventory control measures to minimize shrinkage and waste.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections of incoming plant shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, and operations teams.
  • Provide point of contact for the nursery wholesale program.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and horticultural advancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in nursery operations, plant procurement, or horticultural supply chain management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of plant identification and horticultural practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to wear a uniform and maintain a clean appearance.
  • Ability to work in different weather conditions and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
