About the position

The Purchasing Manager at SNC Manufacturing Co., Inc. is responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, inventory control, and warehousing operations. This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating purchasing activities to ensure efficient operations and collaboration with various departments. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team, manage vendor relationships, and contribute to strategic planning related to material procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the work of approximately four to five persons engaged in material procurement, production scheduling operations, cost quoting, and inventory control management.
  • Monitor purchased inventory levels, stock status reports, and existing systems to ensure optimal operations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Production Control, and others in preparing short and long-range forecasts affecting negotiations for materials.
  • Evaluate new materials and develop new or alternate vendors, designating those acceptable to various departments.
  • Establish purchase requirements considering lead time, economics, and anticipated sales.
  • Maintain a good corporate image with outside vendors and visit vendor plants as appropriate.
  • Supervise subcontracting work, locating vendors capable of meeting schedule, quality, and service requirements.
  • Control programs to sell designated obsolete stock.
  • Participate in production and staff meetings to support the development of plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct, assist, and train subordinates, responding to grievances and appraising work performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Over 4 years of experience in purchasing or procurement in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Broad knowledge of material procurement, inventory control, warehousing, and electrical transformer manufacturing practices.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience with an ERP system and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • APICS Certification is a plus.
  • Experience with quoting and costing.
