About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Allient Inc. is responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, inventory control, and warehousing operations. This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating activities related to purchasing raw materials and managing vendor relationships, all under the guidance of the Vice President and General Manager. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team, ensuring effective operations and collaboration with other departments to meet the company's material needs efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the work of approximately four to five persons engaged in material procurement, production scheduling operations, cost quoting, and inventory control management.
  • Ensure effective performance of team members while collaborating with warehouse employees for smooth operations.
  • Monitor purchased inventory levels and stock status reports to optimize company interests.
  • Motivate subordinates on innovations and improvements as required.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Production Control for short and long-range forecasts affecting material negotiations.
  • Evaluate new materials and develop new or alternate vendors, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Establish purchase requirements considering lead time and economic factors based on anticipated sales.
  • Maintain a positive corporate image with vendors and conduct visits to vendor plants as necessary.
  • Supervise subcontracting work, ensuring vendors meet schedule, quality, and service requirements.
  • Obtain quotations and contracts for work, and control programs for obsolete stock.
  • Participate in production and staff meetings to support the development of plans and policies.
  • Collaborate on various management projects as assigned.
  • Direct, assist, and train subordinates, responding to grievances at the primary level.
  • Appraise work performance and conduct merit reviews, making recommendations on personnel matters.
  • Collaborate with Production Supervisor and Human Resources on employee relations and safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License required; APICS Certification is a plus.
  • Over 4 years up to and including 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Broad knowledge of material procurement, inventory control, warehousing, material specifications, and electrical transformer manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Experience with an ERP system.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Experience with quoting and costing.
