About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Ascend Wellness Holdings (AWH) is responsible for overseeing the procurement of cannabis products, ensuring that the company meets its sales and margin objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of the cannabis industry, particularly in strains, concentrates, and edibles, and involves managing supplier relationships, inventory levels, and purchasing processes. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team, develop strategic promotions, and maintain compliance with industry regulations while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and management of purchasing cannabis products in retail stores.
• Execute the full scope of the purchasing and buying process from sourcing, arranging vendor meetings, product evaluation, and cost analysis to deliver sales and margin goals.
• Act in accordance with the mission statement of right product, right place, right time, at the right volume.
• Conduct regular assortment productivity analysis and make recommendations to improve sales and margin.
• Monitor inventory levels and suggest appropriate actions to maintain appropriate Days of On Hand by category and actively manage unproductive inventory.
• Develop strong relationships with vendors of cannabis products to ensure uninterrupted access to industry-leading products at competitive prices.
• Maintain an organized calendar of deliveries, payouts, on-site vendor meetings, and product education meetings.
• Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand, communicating forecasted needs by SKU to cultivation/production facilities.
• Ensure vendor compliance with licensing obligations, delivery procedures, and payment handling.
• Assist with developing the purchasing team as needed.
• Collaborate and maintain partnerships with General Managers and other team members in the region or state.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or 3+ years' experience in lieu of degree, in a supervisory or management role in a retail setting, specifically with POS business operations and inventory control systems.
• 3 years of cannabis experience; MSO experience is a plus.
• Ability to travel to AWH dispensaries in Ohio on a regular basis.
• Understanding of applicable state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes, and organizational rules.
• Team player with problem-solving abilities, self-motivated, and strong work ethic.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; expert knowledge of Excel and Power BI is a plus.
• Must be compliant with any and all regulatory requirements for working in the cannabis industry.
• Must be able to obtain and retain a Registered Agent Card issued by the state of operation.
