About the position

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee the Purchasing Department and manage all sourcing for equipment, goods, and services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, seeking the best possible contracts, and identifying the most profitable suppliers and vendors. This role is crucial in ensuring that the company maintains its competitive edge in the homebuilding market by effectively managing purchasing strategies and vendor relationships. The Purchasing Manager will develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies that align with the company's goals. This includes managing the bid process for architectural plans to subcontractors and vendors, tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness, and crafting negotiation strategies to close deals with optimal terms. The role also involves partnering with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation and forecasting price and market trends to identify changes in buyer-supplier power. In addition to these responsibilities, the Purchasing Manager will perform cost and scenario analysis, benchmarking, and risk assessment to manage and mitigate potential issues. The position requires monitoring and forecasting upcoming levels of demand, creating budgets for upcoming projects, and managing costs of existing projects. The Purchasing Manager will conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and enhance the goodwill and profit of the company. This role includes direct management of two or more employees in the Purchasing Department, with responsibilities that encompass interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as appraising performance and addressing complaints.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration.
  • Five to eight years of related experience and/or training as a Purchasing Manager, Agent, or Officer.
  • Proven experience with sourcing, negotiation, and vendor management.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data.
  • Strong leadership skills and networking capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Regular interest in market dynamics along with business sense.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.
