About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Suntree Country Club is responsible for overseeing the procurement of all food and beverage products, ensuring quality standards are met while managing costs and supplier relationships. This role is integral to the management team, reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Director, and involves strategic purchasing, negotiation with suppliers, and maintaining inventory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop profitable purchasing strategies
  • Assess supplier profiles and analyze offers
  • Prepare and implement negotiation tactics
  • Purchase standard menu items, non-alcoholic beverages, liquor, and wine
  • Ensure proper and timely delivery of invoices to the Controller/Director of Finance
  • Schedule and track purchases, invoice coding, and daily inventory pars
  • Oversee monthly inventory and report to the accounting department
  • Brief the Food and Beverage Director, Executive Chef, and Assistant Food and Beverage Director on product and labor costs
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper storage procedures exceeding state health code standards
  • Process purchase requisitions from authorized personnel
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of supplies
  • Help develop purchasing policies and procedures
  • Develop purchase specifications and perform make/buy quality evaluations
  • Maintain current files of suppliers, stock lists, catalogs, and price sheets
  • Gather information about market conditions and material availability
  • Monitor purchase orders to ensure correct and complete deliveries
  • Expedite the purchase of needed products
  • Track daily par levels on products as set by the Executive Chef and Assistant Food and Beverage Director
  • Interact with vendor personnel regarding shortages, price changes, and related matters
  • Work with personnel to determine proper quality and purchase quantities
  • Minimize losses from product or supply pilferage, spoilage, or obsolescence
  • Utilize procedures to minimize operating costs for purchase and storage of all products
  • Work with suppliers to solve supply and delivery problems
  • Identify new products, materials, and processes potentially useful to the club.

Requirements

  • Culinary diploma from a recognized institution or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in varied kitchen positions including food preparation, line cook, fry cook, and expediter
  • At least 6 months experience in a similar capacity
