About the position

The Purchasing & Materials Manager is responsible for managing resources and coordinating supply chain activities to ensure that stock is readily available for manufacturing operations. This role involves overseeing supplier and vendor relationships, negotiating prices, and ensuring timely payments while monitoring market trends to maintain optimal inventory levels.

Responsibilities

• Manage various resources to ensure stock availability.
• Schedule supplier and vendor meetings and negotiate best prices.
• Ensure timely payments and monitor credits due to the company.
• Maintain a list of regularly used materials and coordinate with vendors.
• Manage materials for manufacturing and ensure adequate stock for job orders.
• Conduct periodic cycle counts and manage finished goods inventory.
• Keep up with industry pricing and negotiate prices and net terms.
• Develop vendor relations to meet internal customer demands.
• Provide purchase orders as needed and required.
• Communicate ETA/promise dates and pertinent information at the time of purchase.
• Conduct follow-ups on purchase orders to ensure due dates are met.
• Outsource materials when necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or related field preferred.
• Proven experience in purchasing, negotiation, and procurement.
• Familiarity with SAP, JD Edwards, or other ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of supply chain and inventory management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to analyze pricing and production planning data.
• Certification in procurement or supply chain management is a plus.
