About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Safariland is responsible for driving profitable sales growth by managing inventory levels across retail, ECOM, and agency production channels. This role involves improving communication with team members and vendors, maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs), and mentoring the purchasing team to enhance performance and efficiency. The manager will also identify and address issues impacting performance and implement effective countermeasures.

Responsibilities

  • Establish buying strategy based on forecast analysis and team engagement to ensure customer satisfaction and accurate product delivery.
  • Maintain group performance KPIs, including root cause identification and countermeasure development.
  • Provide monthly purchasing budget to finance for inclusion in business performance reports.
  • Manage slow-moving and obsolete inventories and develop reduction plans.
  • Make recommendations for continuous improvement in purchasing processes and ERP systems.
  • Ensure timely implementation of pricing updates before expiration.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding new products and training, ensuring information dissemination within the organization.
  • Establish core vendor performance metrics and develop strategies for vendor management.
  • Mentor and train associates to enhance skillsets and team efficiency.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures and ensure document repository is current.
  • Manage inventory from vendor to customer PO, addressing delivery issues and discrepancies.
  • Negotiate and resolve delivery issues, communicating with stakeholders.
  • Ensure ERP systems reflect accurate PO/SO expected delivery dates.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in buying, planning, or purchasing with multi-channel fulfillment experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and MS Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 5 years of experience managing high-volume purchasing/planning teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, mathematics, or equivalent preferred.
  • Firm understanding of turns, lifecycle management, and safety stock.
  • Experience in team building, coaching, training, and development.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, open-to-buy methodology, store allocation methodology, and assortment rationalization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with inventory management and purchase order management.
  • Familiarity with forecasting and budgeting processes.
