About the position

The Purina Equine Research Intern position is a full-time summer internship focused on assisting with equine nutritional research at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center. The intern will engage in various research activities related to horse physiology, including exercise, growth, palatability, and digestive health. The role involves hands-on experience with horses and opportunities to work in laboratories, making it ideal for students pursuing a career in the equine industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily research and sample collections for nutritional research projects.
• Work with younger horses on basic groundwork and desensitization tasks such as leading, tying, and trailer loading.
• Perform daily chores at the equine unit, including feeding, maintenance, and horse care.
• Engage in opportunities to work in laboratories and meet with local salespeople and researchers.

Requirements

• Pursuing a four-year degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Management, Animal Nutrition, or a related major.
• Sophomore level or higher, preferably Junior level.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in colt starting or young horse training.
• Horse handling experience is required, with the ability to lift 50 lbs.
