About the position

The Putnam Museum Youth Specialist position is a temporary role within the Davenport AmeriCorps program, aimed at providing educational and enrichment experiences for upper-elementary and middle school youth. The specialist will engage with children through hands-on activities, coordinate career workshops, and foster civic engagement and mentorship. This role is integral to supporting K-12 students and promoting science literacy and cultural understanding within the community.

Responsibilities

• Provide educational and enrichment experiences for upper-elementary and middle school youth through museum craft activities and exhibit interactives.
• Coordinate partner resources to connect youth to career opportunities, including career workshops and camps.
• Plan, lead, and implement informal educational opportunities in the museum's exhibit galleries.
• Provide quality customer service to all visitors, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Attend a minimum of 2 special events per quarter.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with children and families preferred.
• Background in science, museum studies, education, recreation, human service, or a related field is desired.
• Must be 17 years or older at the start of service.
• Pass a national service criminal history check prior to the first day of service.
• Hold US citizenship, US national status, or Lawful Permanent Resident status.
