About the position

As part of New York Life Direct, you'll join a team revolutionizing the life insurance experience for AARP members. We're the industry leader in direct-to-consumer life insurance, offering streamlined coverage directly to individuals, bypassing traditional agent models. Your work will directly impact lives by making life insurance accessible, affordable, and understandable for millions of Americans. NYL Direct is looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst/Test Engineer. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and execute automated and manual functional tests to ensure product quality. This will focus on the validation of back-end processes. In this role you will estimate, plan, and execute testing activities. You will also ensure that quality issues and defects are appropriately identified, documented, reported verified after resolution, and resolved in our defect tracking system. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product features and requirements, ensuring clear and actionable user stories and acceptance criteria. You will execute automated and manual test cases to validate the functionality, performance, and security of software applications against functional and non-functional requirements. Participation in all phases of the agile development cycle, from sprint planning to retrospectives, is expected, advocating for quality at each step. You will identify, document, and track software defects, working with developers and Business Owners to facilitate quick resolutions. Additionally, you will work with the automation team to enhance test automation frameworks in support of continuous processes. Your role will also involve providing input during backlog refinement and sprint planning, contributing to user story sizing and task estimation from a testing perspective. You will participate in group peer reviews and inspections of testing strategies, report on test results, and offer insights and recommendations to improve product quality. Staying up to date with the latest testing tools, methodologies, and industry best practices is essential, as is maintaining business knowledge in the life insurance field. You will use SQL statements for data mining to pull test cases and participate in Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) sessions with the App Dev team and business users, assisting business users with User Acceptance Testing (UAT). Understanding the technology our application/systems are built with from a code analysis standpoint is a plus. You will also participate in troubleshooting and triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution, and create/maintain documentation around processes and procedures of daily functions. Finally, you will use PractiTest test case management tool for all testing.
