About the position

As a QA Backend Tester at TEKsystems, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products. This position can be based in either Jersey City or Plano, and you will be responsible for developing detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test cases based on functional requirements. You will contribute to test planning and, as part of a Scrum team, build test cases for stories in the given sprint according to the story acceptance criteria. Your participation in test case reviews will be essential, and you will be expected to make necessary updates to ensure accuracy and relevance. In this role, you will build and utilize test data required for executing test cases, and you will execute both manual and automated tests while meticulously recording test results. You will be tasked with testing new and existing features, debugging code at both the unit and integration levels, and reporting any errors and failures that arise. Collaboration with the development team will be key, particularly in defect triaging, as you will execute all levels of testing, including Functional, Integration, and Regression testing. You will also design, develop, and execute automation scripts, taking ownership of end-to-end testing processes. Your ability to detect and track software defects and inconsistencies will be vital, as will your capacity to provide timely solutions. Throughout the Agile product lifecycle, you will uphold quality principles and ensure that all standards and processes are implemented within projects. This position requires a proactive attitude and a commitment to excellence in software testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test cases based on functional requirements.
• Contribute to test planning and build test cases for stories in the given sprint as per story acceptance criteria.
• Participate in test case reviews and make necessary updates.
• Build and use test data required to execute test cases.
• Execute test cases, including manual and automated tests, and record test results.
• Test new and existing features, debug code (units and integration), and report errors and failures.
• Work collaboratively with the development team for defect triaging.
• Execute all levels of testing (Functional, Integration, and Regression).
• Design, develop, and execute automation scripts.
• Take ownership of end-to-end testing processes.
• Detect and track software defects and inconsistencies; provide timely solutions.
• Ensure quality principles are upheld throughout the Agile product lifecycle with appropriate support and documentation.
• Ensure that all standards and processes are implemented within projects.

Requirements

• Technical BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or Math.
• 4 - 6 years of experience in Software Testing.
• Working knowledge of DB testing on Teradata, Oracle, Hadoop, and SAS platforms, Unix, and Autosys.
• Experience with developing test suites using TOSCA Automation tool.
• 3+ years of experience in data analysis and applying test strategies.
• Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Tester using SQL, Database, and ETL technologies.
• Strong experience in writing complex SQL queries using Joins.
• Ability to document and troubleshoot errors.
• Working knowledge of test management software (e.g., qTest, Octane, JIRA).
• Familiarity with the life cycle of projects (SIT, UAT).
• Hands-on Agile experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including advanced interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities on an ongoing basis.
• Self-directed to complete assigned activities.
