About the position

As a QA Engineer II/III at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and performance of products in alignment with established company and regulatory standards. This position is integral to the "Bath-Built is Best Built" tradition, emphasizing a commitment to quality in all new construction and Planning Yard programs. You will be responsible for developing and implementing program quality plans and procedures, ensuring that all products meet the required specifications and standards. Your role will involve reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on quality discrepancies and data related to production, as well as investigating problems and developing corrective actions for recurring discrepancies. In this position, you will interface with various stakeholders to ensure that all requirements are met and will recommend corrective actions, process optimizations, and modifications as necessary. You will provide support to the Manufacturing team in identifying causes of rework and implementing corrections to eliminate such issues. Additionally, you will review quality data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, making recommendations regarding indicators related to changes in quality levels within the manufacturing process. Collaboration with Manufacturing Leadership will be essential to identify causes of quality issues and determine potential corrective actions. Your responsibilities will also include the development of Departmental Operating Instructions (DOI) and conducting process audits in accordance with these instructions. You will be tasked with performing Quality Management System reviews and source inspections at vendor facilities, as well as conducting receipt inspections of products at Bath Iron Works. This role will require travel for supplier audits and planning yard support, and may also include responsibilities related to Preventative Maintenance support and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement program quality plans and procedures.
  • Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
  • Review, analyze and report on quality discrepancies and data related to production.
  • Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met.
  • Recommend corrective actions, dispositions, process optimization and modifications.
  • Provide support to Manufacturing in efforts to identify causes of rework and implement corrections to eliminate rework.
  • Review quality data, identify trends, patterns, anomalies and make recommendations regarding indicators related to changes in quality levels in the manufacturing process.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Leadership to identify causes of quality issues and determine potential corrective actions.
  • Development of Departmental Operating Instructions (DOI) and accomplishing process audits IAW with DOI's.
  • Accomplish Quality Management System reviews and source inspections at vendor facilities with receipt inspections of products at BIW.
  • Travel required for supplier audits and planning yard support.
  • May include Preventative Maintenance support and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, or Marine-related field for QA Engineer II.
  • Demonstrated employment background in Quality Administration, Trades, Ship-board Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Project Engineering/Management role for QA Engineer II.
  • BS Degree in Information Technology, Quality, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience for QA Engineer III.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Design, Planning, Electrical or a Supervisory Role for QA Engineer II.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Design, Marine Industry, Electrical, Planning or Supervisory Role in Trades Dept. for QA Engineer III.
  • Background in Quality Assurance or Control operating in regulated industry such as aerospace/defense, pharmaceutical, food or scientific environments strongly preferred.
  • Practical Experience with ISO9001 or similar system in ship-building or other highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and participating in independent audit for certification of known Quality standard (ISO preferred).
  • Working knowledge of planning systems such as MACPAC, and shop methods and construction processes preferred.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Products with demonstrated mid-to-high level experience in MS Excel, Access, Project, and Visio strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in direct dealings with U.S. Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SOSB) Quality Assurance (QAS) a plus.
  • Experience with direct dealing with Navy or other branch of the Department of Defense (DoD) in either commercial or military role, a plus.
  • Experience in any marine/shipboard assignments, commercial or military, a plus.
  • Ability to exercise technical writing skills in development and revision of varied procedures.
