About the position

The Judge Group is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced QA Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team as a QA Engineer (Bioinformatics). In this role, you will play a crucial part in the development of our state-of-the-art digital platform that supports research and development programs in the discovery and development of novel biotherapeutics. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct thorough manual and automated testing of custom scientific informatics software applications, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and performance. This position is remote, but candidates must be able to travel onsite approximately once a month, and must reside within a two-hour drive of Massachusetts. As a QA Engineer, you will be tasked with planning, developing, and executing comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases for scientific informatics applications. These applications are developed using a variety of technologies including Java, JavaScript, AngularJS, SQL, Oracle, HTML, and CSS. You will review and analyze system specifications and requirements, execute manual and automated test cases, and perform functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Your role will also involve identifying, documenting, and reporting bugs and defects, as well as working closely with developers to reproduce and resolve issues. You will help build professional, supportable, and well-documented solutions following best practices and standards, and participate in reviews and peer-reviews of solutions and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and execute comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases for scientific informatics applications.
  • Review and analyze system specifications and requirements.
  • Execute manual and automated test cases, including functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Identify, document, and report bugs and defects.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce and resolve issues.
  • Help build professional, supportable, and well-documented solutions following best practices and standards.
  • Participate in reviews and peer-reviews of solutions and documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience with technologies, databases, and methodologies used in biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, and/or cheminformatics research.
  • Hands-on experience in manual and automated testing of scientific applications.
  • Keen eye for detail and the ability to think critically about how users will interact with solutions.
  • Experience in Test Driven Development using Karma/Jasmine or similar technologies is desired.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
  • Knowledge of SDLC, and testing methodologies, processes, technologies, and frameworks.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Master's/PhD degree in a relevant field with 0+ years of relevant experience.
  • College-level coursework in Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or related subjects is required.
  • 1+ years of work experience in a wet-lab or dry-lab research program in Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or related subjects is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with drug discovery and development processes and associated scientific workflows.
