About the position

The Quality Engineer position at VIZIO is focused on ensuring the quality of both front-end embedded clients and back-end core/cloud/data pipelines. The role involves validating the Inscape data set, which is utilized by millions of users, and requires detail-oriented testers to identify and report critical bugs before they impact users. The position demands a solid understanding of the software development life cycle, the ability to create and update test strategies, and the execution of both manual and automated testing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update test strategies for each scheduled release.
  • Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to provide feedback.
  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases.
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities.
  • Design, develop, and execute automation scripts for internal QA use and Operations.
  • Utilize Linux/bash for debugging through system-level logs.
  • Implement data-driven testing and assess functional impacts on the system.
  • Work with SQL and analyze data using Databricks, Python/Spark, and big data technologies.
  • Identify, record, document, and track/triage bugs.
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved.
  • Catalog and maintain a test scenario library.
  • Present testing results and progress to the management team.
  • Plan release windows and cycles across a portfolio.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues affecting release scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Engage in early SDLC with Product Managers and Developers to evolve features.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer in complex system-level architecture or big data services.
  • Experience with large-scale integration projects involving ETLs, big data, and streaming technologies like Kafka.
  • Experience testing big data environments and defining test approaches for platforms like Snowflake/Databricks.
  • Proficient in creating testing strategies and engineering best practices for manual and automated testing.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and defect diagnosis techniques.
  • Experience with test automation for data warehouse testing.
  • Ability to write scripts to automate test cases.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, Spark, and big data technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams.
  • Effective leadership and analytical skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience in building automated regression testing capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
