About the position

The QA Engineer position at Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc. is integral to the xEV DU team, focusing on Electric Vehicle products. The role involves providing Quality Assurance support to both customers and internal manufacturing teams during Product Introduction and Mass Production activities. The engineer will ensure that manufacturing processes comply with regulatory, customer, and design requirements, manage change points, and lead corrective actions for customer complaints. This position offers a collaborative environment, working closely with various departments and stakeholders, including suppliers and international customers.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm manufacturing processes produce products according to specifications through measurements, experiments, trials, audits, and documentation.
  • Manage Change Points to products and processes to gain customer approval for initial production parts.
  • Conduct daily customer service and plant support activities.
  • Lead internal teams in corrective action activities, including root cause analysis and reporting for customer complaints.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers, Test Engineers, Analysis Engineers, SPQ Engineers, Maintenance, Technical Associates, and Production personnel.

Requirements

  • 4-year College Degree in Electrical Engineering with 4 years related work experience in manufacturing OR 2-year Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with 6 years related work experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems (PPAP/IPPAAR part approval, CAPA corrective/preventive actions).
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) and print interpretation.
  • Understanding of Electrical and Mechanical Schematics and component part specifications.
  • Ability to understand and explain component and circuit functions in relation to overall product design.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Work experience in the automotive industry, with emphasis on electro/mechanical devices.
  • Knowledge of EV components such as inverters and motors.
  • Experience dealing with automotive customers.
  • Bilingual in Japanese for translation purposes.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems such as IATF16949, PPAP, CAPA, NPI, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, etc.
  • Experience with development of SAP, Control Plans, FMEA's, Process Operations Standards, etc.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.
