About the position

The QA Firmware Engineer at Astera Labs is responsible for validating the COSMOS Firmware and associated SDKs for the company's SoC and systems products. This role is crucial as the COSMOS suite is a key differentiator for Astera Labs' offerings, making it as important as the hardware itself. The engineer will work closely with the development team to create test plans, develop test procedures, and execute them to ensure the proper implementation of firmware.

Responsibilities

• Validate the COSMOS Firmware and associated SDKs for SoC and systems products.
• Create test plans and well-defined test procedures for firmware validation.
• Execute tests to verify firmware implementation and functionality.
• Analyze customer use cases and write stress/negative tests.
• Triage test execution failures and provide feedback to the development team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in supporting or developing complex SoC/silicon products.
• Experience with white-box and black-box testing methodologies for firmware validation.
• Proficiency in C or C++, particularly in developing C-based SDKs.
• High proficiency in Python and test automation tools like Pytest.
• Knowledge of software/firmware build environments and CI/CD tools such as Git and Jenkins.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces like PCI-Express, Ethernet, DDR, and NVMe.
• Understanding of secure software principles including cryptography and common software vulnerabilities.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience testing or developing embedded firmware for on-chip microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with security firmware solutions and industry standards like NIST and Open Compute Project.
• Hands-on experience with Server, Storage, and Networking equipment.
