About the position

The Laboratory Engineer II role at Waters Corporation is a dynamic position that provides dual support for the Quality Control (QC) Laboratory and Production teams. This position is integral to the operations at the Waters Milford, MA facility, working closely with the Senior QA Laboratory Engineer and Operational Quality Engineers. The primary focus of this role is to investigate and analyze various samples to support multiple departments including Quality, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Research and Development (R&D), Test Engineering, Reliability Engineering, and Design Engineering. The Laboratory Engineer II will be responsible for analyzing molecular contamination to ensure compliance with critical clean specifications, driving quality improvements in both equipment and processes, and supporting the design and release of new products. In addition to these responsibilities, the Laboratory Engineer II will assist in the design and validation of analytical test methods, execute tests, analyze results, and report conclusions. This role will also provide direct quality support for a chemistry-based manufacturing process, conducting investigations to determine root causes of issues, implementing corrective actions, and leading process improvement initiatives. The position requires a strong commitment to quality and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wet lab techniques
  • Conduct untargeted LC-MS analysis
  • Execute LC-TUV analysis
  • Participate in experimental design
  • Engage in validation activities
  • Prepare data reports
  • Contribute to procedure writing
  • Maintain laboratory housekeeping
  • Provide quality support for production of chemistry products
  • Investigate nonconformances, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions/preventive actions (CA/PA)
  • Lead improvement activities related to product and process quality in conjunction with Operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Science (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology), Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Environmental) or a technical field with emphasis on laboratory and analytical skills
  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience (Diagnostics devices, pharma, biotech)
  • Minimum 3 years of laboratory equipment experience
  • Practiced experience with mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, or similar analytical techniques
  • Professional focus within lab release testing, manufacturing, or production roles
  • Exposure to process and/or software validation methods
  • Excellent report writing and attention to detail
  • Root cause investigation skills with use of common RCA tools
  • Project management skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to client satisfaction

Nice-to-haves

  • Laboratory experience within a Quality Assurance/Control Laboratory
  • Experience using Waters liquid Chromatographs and mass spectrometers (UNIFI, Empower, MassLynx software)
