About the position

Suffolk is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Career Start program, a two-year rotational initiative designed for recent college graduates eager to embark on a career in construction management. This program allows participants to gain hands-on experience across various essential functions, including Estimating, Project Management, and Field Operations. The role is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the construction process, enabling participants to develop the skills necessary to manage complex projects effectively. As a Project Engineer, you will engage in a series of rotations that will immerse you in the core aspects of construction management. In the Estimating rotation, you will collaborate with the preconstruction team to create detailed cost forecasts for projects, assist in managing subcontractor databases, and participate in the preparation of bid documents. This role will require you to conduct quantity take-offs, develop bid clarifications, and participate in project walk-throughs, ensuring that you gain a solid foundation in estimating practices. During the Field Operations rotation, you will support Superintendents in the daily management of job sites, acting as the primary point of contact for trade partners. This hands-on experience will allow you to understand document control, verify shop drawings against field conditions, and assist in maintaining project files. You will also be involved in quality control processes and safety requirements, gaining insight into the practical aspects of construction management. In the Project Management rotation, you will work alongside Project Managers to oversee project resources, coordinate trade partners, and manage budgets. This will include assisting with change orders, procurement processes, and vendor requisitions. You will also participate in project meetings and support the development of operation and maintenance manuals, ensuring that you are well-versed in the administrative side of project management. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about construction management and eager to learn from experienced professionals in a dynamic environment. The program is set to commence in July 2025, and while a degree in construction management is not required, candidates should possess a strong desire to grow within the industry.
