About the position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking a dedicated Software Tester to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and functionality of our software products, which are essential for delivering exceptional health care services to our diverse patient population. The Software Tester will develop testing programs that address various areas, including database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, and usability. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and specifying standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness. This includes designing test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures that align with our organizational goals. In this role, you will document problems with software, testing procedures, and defects identified, utilizing a bug tracking procedure to report defects to software developers. You will also create and maintain databases of known test defects, monitor bug resolution efforts, and track successes. Identifying and analyzing problems with software is a key responsibility, as is conducting software compatibility tests with various programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments. The Software Tester will install, maintain, configure, and use software testing programs, ensuring efficient and problem-free operations. Collaboration is essential in this role, as you will participate in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems. You will plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates and perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, you will work closely with end users to evaluate or diagnose problems and recommend possible solutions, providing valuable feedback to developers on software usability and functionality. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability.
  • Document problems with software, testing procedures and defects identified, using a bug tracking procedure.
  • Report defects to software developers and create and maintain databases of known test defects.
  • Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes.
  • Identify and analyze problems with software and suggest modifications to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments.
  • Install, maintain, configure, and use software testing programs & recreations of software production environments.
  • Monitor program performance to ensure efficient and problem-free operations.
  • Participate in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems.
  • Plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates.
  • Work with end users to evaluate or diagnose problems and recommend possible solutions.
  • Investigate customer problems referred by technical support and provide end user feedback and recommendations to developers.

Requirements

  • 1 year experience in software design, development, and/or testing required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related technology studies field required.
  • Ability to execute high quality results-driven product testing (acceptance, regression, functionality) of software products.
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-workload environment.
  • Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
  • Intermediate organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills, including interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of software development, quality assurance, structured programming, and product testing practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
