About the position

Twisted Pixel is an award-winning game development studio currently working on an exciting new VR game. We are seeking an experienced QA Tester / Analyst to join our quality assurance team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a self-starter, and a team player with a solid understanding of the full game development cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and resolving various in-game issues, both through downstream devices and in the Editor. You will also fulfill technical testing needs, engage in data analytics, and support the QA Manager in suggesting and testing critical tools to ensure the overall quality of our product. As a QA Tester / Analyst, you will spend multiple hours daily in a VR headset, collaborating with cross-functional partners to understand product specifics. This understanding will allow you to craft, continuously improve, and execute test strategies while hunting for defects to help ship a high-quality VR game. You will define, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, serving as a subject matter expert to provide testing know-how and identify quality improvements across all aspects of the game. Clear communication skills are essential, as you will need to relay key information to the team and stakeholders, driving knowledge sharing. You will be expected to communicate QA concepts clearly and reliably, tailoring your delivery to your audience. This role requires a specialization in technical testing, basic automation, and in-depth data analytics, with a focus on larger scope strategy. Independence and confidence in coordinating between disciplines, along with a passion for creating new and exciting products, are key attributes for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to understand product specifics and craft, continuously improve, and execute corresponding test strategies.
  • Define, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure the quality of software products, leveraging offsite resources for support.
  • Serve as a subject matter specialist, providing testing know-how for user requirements and identifying quality improvements in all aspects of the game.
  • Communicate promptly with stakeholders to confirm questions and information, and escalate serious defects as necessary.
  • Apply strong automation and efficiency skills to define and suggest automation test strategies and utilize technical tooling to expand QA coverage.
  • Actively test in a VR headset for multiple hours a day, identifying defects and quality concerns in a fast-paced app/game.
  • Perform specialized testing requiring base code or internal tools such as Perforce, VS Code Debugger, and Unreal Editor.
  • Install, setup, and maintain VR hardware and equipment.
  • Report and track data quality, utilizing data visualization tools to drive conversations around risks, product quality, and development health.
  • Deep dive into test and dev tools as well as the bug database to define root causes of issues and assist the QA Manager in defining risk.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working on a team performing testing for games.
  • Experience with Testing Software such as Atlassian Suite, ClickUp, or TestRail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a team environment with multiple levels of people and other disciplines.
  • Experience with creating advanced queries in Jira via JQL or related languages (R, Python, M, DAX).
  • Proficient in crafting and executing test cases and test scripts to ensure top-notch quality.
  • In-depth understanding of the Game Development Cycle, QA Strategy, root cause analysis, and risk-management strategies.
  • Experience with data analytics or statistics, demonstrated by experience with KPIs.
  • Experience leading peer reviews of test scenarios and test cases.
  • Experience with testing in an Agile Development environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple tasks with little to no guidance.
  • Experience with Google or Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience being in a VR headset for multiple hours a day in a fast-paced app/game.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working cross-discipline with production and engineering teams.
  • VR game testing experience.
  • Basic and recent knowledge of data modeling languages (Python, SQL, JQL, DAX, Ruby).
  • Data management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Unreal / UE4 and Blueprints.
  • Experience with PowerBI, Tableau, or creating data dashboards.
