About the position

The SQL DBA position in Akron, OH, is a direct hire opportunity with a large, global employer. The role involves managing SQL Server databases, ensuring performance tuning, backup assurance, and providing on-call support. The DBA will also assist with general Microsoft Windows server issues and may cross-train into SAP DB2 LUW support, making it a versatile role within the IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Performance tuning and backup assurance for SQL databases.
• Provide on-call support and off-hours support as needed.
• Assist with general Microsoft Windows server issues for SQL hosts.
• Conduct diagnostics of business problems with a strong understanding of technical architecture.
• Anticipate implementation obstacles and provide solutions.
• Participate in the analysis of vendor proposals and project plans.
• Coordinate with vendors and assist in testing processes.
• Manage all aspects of SQL Server administration including installation, patching, troubleshooting, and monitoring.

Requirements

• 4-5 years of database administration experience focused on SQL DBA tasks.
• Experience with performance tuning, maintenance, and monitoring of databases.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft technology stack, including SSIS, SSRS, and T-SQL is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience is required.
• Experience with database clustering and third-party tools is strongly desired.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.
• Availability for rotational on-call support from a remote level is required.
