About The Position

The Qualified Craft Worker (Plumbing and Steamfitting) position at the State of Connecticut's Department of Administrative Services involves performing a full range of highly skilled plumbing and steamfitting duties. Requirements

  • Four years of experience in plumbing and steamfitting tasks.
  • Two years of experience must be in skilled plumbing and steamfitting trades.
  • Possession of a current P1 or P2 license in the State of Connecticut is required.

  • Knowledge of and experience with commercial high-pressure steam heat and hot water systems.
  • Skill in residential and institutional plumbing repair.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and demonstrate excellent pipefitter skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly skilled tasks in plumbing and steamfitting according to trade practices and codes.
  • Assemble, install, and repair air, gas, water, steam, and sewer disposal systems.
  • Cut, bend, ream, and thread pipes as needed.
  • Caulk and test joints for leaks and integrity.
  • Install and repair gas, water, steam, and sanitary fixtures.
  • Cover and insulate tanks, pipes, and related objects.
  • Work with high-pressure hot water and steam systems.
  • Perform minor tests for fuel specific gravity and gas leaks.
  • Add water treatment chemicals to boilers as required.
  • Estimate time and materials needed for tasks and keep necessary records.
  • May braze pipes and inspect/repair steam traps and medical gas systems.
  • Act as a liaison with other units and outside contacts as necessary.
