About The Position

The Qualified Service Technician position at Hussmann Corporation involves responding to customer needs for service and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems primarily in supermarkets and convenience stores. The role requires performing routine maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of various refrigeration systems under the guidance of a Master or Lead Service Technician, while also ensuring excellent customer relations and accurate documentation of services provided.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED required; HVAC-R Technical School Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field or 0 years with Certification from a Technical School for external candidates; 1 year as a General Laborer with completion of OJT & Skills Assessment for internal candidates.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record in accordance with fleet policy.
• Physical ability to walk distances, bench and crouch, climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift/carry objects up to fifty pounds repetitively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, and highly motivated.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and hand tools.
• Familiarity with HVAC heating and cooling concepts and basic electrical schematics.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
• Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or commercial refrigeration and HVAC preferred.
• EPA 608 universal certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform prescribed routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and temperature-controlled merchandisers with direction from a Master or Lead Service Technician.
• Conduct preventative maintenance tasks such as compressor changes, leak searching, and coil washing under supervision.
• Acquire knowledge through on-the-job training, including new product development and service bulletins.
• Complete necessary documentation and electronic communication accurately and timely.
• Utilize a hand-held computer for customer paperwork and invoicing requirements.
• Maintain and manage truck inventory in an orderly manner and adhere to vehicle maintenance program guidelines.
• Identify and use standard tools of the trade, including refrigerant recovery equipment.
• Develop and maintain excellent customer relations and articulate equipment malfunctions using correct terminology.
• Perform service on various refrigeration systems, including conventional systems and walk-in coolers, under supervision.
• Demonstrate understanding of refrigerant properties, sub-cooling, superheat, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Safely handle R290 refrigerant and other hazardous materials.
• De-ice case and walk-in evaporator coils, replace fan motors, and wash condenser coils.
• Understand system evacuation, charging, pump down, and defrost processes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
