About the position

The Quality Assurance Auditor position at Mercer Foods is essential for ensuring food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of the company's products. This role involves a variety of responsibilities including the verification of food safety, product attributes, and labeling compliance. The auditor will ensure that micro and retention samples are collected according to product specifications and will properly follow the product hold and release program, verifying that products on hold are disposed of or reworked properly. Additionally, the auditor will maintain lab supply inventory and assist in driving lab safety and efficiency. The position also includes investigating customer complaints related to quality and food safety, maintaining various QA databases such as the Hold database, EMP database, and micro test database. The auditor will document and implement inspection criteria and procedures, serve as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) to review HACCP, cleaning/sanitation, and pest control records, and identify trends while keeping track of relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Ensuring that all relevant product safety and quality records are reviewed and filed properly is also a key responsibility. Training new hires on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety related subjects, participating in internal audits, and assisting in the implementation and maintenance of various quality systems are also part of the role. The Quality Assurance Auditor will serve as a backup for the receiving technicians and the micro lab technicians, and will perform all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of products.
  • Verify food safety, product attributes, and labeling compliance.

  • Follow the product hold and release program, ensuring proper disposal/rework of products on hold.
  • Maintain lab supply inventory and ordering.
  • Drive lab safety and efficiency.

  • Document and implement inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Serve as a PCQI to review HACCP, cleaning/sanitation, and pest control records.

  • Review and file all relevant product safety and quality records properly.
  • Train new hires on GMP and food safety subjects.
  • Participate in internal audits and track trends.
  • Assist in second- and third-party audits.
  • Implement and maintain various quality systems.
  • Serve as backup for receiving technicians and micro lab technicians.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience in field, laboratory, or production facility quality control.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively to internal and external customers.
