About the position

The Business Unit Quality Manager at Graham Packaging is a pivotal role responsible for implementing and directing strategic initiatives aimed at achieving both short and long-term quality improvement objectives related to operations and external customer quality performance. This position is integral to the Graham quality management system, providing direction to manufacturing facilities while collaborating closely with senior management, new product engineering, sales teams, and key customers within the assigned responsibilities. The role emphasizes a commitment to a safe working environment, targeting a zero accident incident rate, and involves mentoring multiple locations in relation to quality standards. The primary accountabilities of the Business Unit Quality Manager include ensuring that quality objectives and goals are clearly established and deployed to continuously improve and exceed quality performance levels. This involves the consistent deployment of established quality systems across multiple plants, directly interfacing with customers, and taking primary responsibility for several key accounts. The manager will drive the manufacturing quality function to ensure that problems are resolved and sustainable corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrences. Additionally, the role requires leading improvement initiatives in the plants to reduce scrap and rework through enhanced process control and error-proofing methods. Utilizing and interpreting statistical data is crucial for analyzing sources of variability and resolving customer concerns. The manager will also drive improved compliance to specifications and product reliability while increasing quality competencies by providing leadership and training to manufacturing teams on quality tools and systems, including the Graham Quality Management System. Participation in new and existing product qualifications is also a key responsibility, providing recommendations and approvals based on statistical data analysis and maintaining a consistent process.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and direct quality assurance strategic initiatives to achieve quality improvement objectives.
  • Provide direction relating to the Graham quality management system to manufacturing facilities.
  • Collaborate with senior management, new product engineering, sales teams, and key customers.
  • Participate in providing a safe working environment targeting a zero accident incident rate.
  • Assume leadership and mentorship roles for multiple locations in relation to quality.
  • Ensure quality objectives and goals are established and deployed for continuous improvement.
  • Deploy established quality systems consistently across multiple plants and interface with customers.
  • Drive the manufacturing quality function to resolve problems and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Lead improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and rework through improved process control.
  • Utilize and interpret statistical data to analyze variability and resolve customer concerns.
  • Drive compliance to specifications and product reliability.
  • Increase quality competencies by providing leadership and training on quality tools and systems.
  • Participate in product qualifications and provide recommendations based on statistical data.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years quality leadership and/or continuous improvement experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or other applicable area required.
  • Strong knowledge of quality systems and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to balance customer quality requirements against cost considerations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving tools, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Robust verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with multi-functional team leadership and project management.
  • Ability to interpret data and develop countermeasures to solve problems.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, A3 or continuous improvement equivalent certification or above.
