About The Position

The Quality Assurance Officer (MVPI) plays a crucial role in ensuring roadway safety in Pennsylvania by supporting vehicle safety inspection programs. This position involves conducting audits at inspection stations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and addressing fraudulent activities. The officer will also engage in training initiatives and foster relationships with various stakeholders to enhance public safety and program integrity.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in an automotive repair related field such as service writer/advisor, technical manual writer, automotive tool and equipment salesman/serviceman, auto mechanic, or auto shop foreman.
  • Possession of a Pennsylvania Safety Mechanics Certification within 90 days of the date of employment.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to assigned counties of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and carry out audits at inspection stations in a designated area.
  • Perform audits and offer recommendations to ensure adherence to regulations and safety standards.
  • Identify and report fraudulent activities during audits.
  • Provide technical and administrative information during audits to maintain program integrity.
  • Conduct visible and hidden investigative audits in collaboration with law enforcement.
  • Perform detailed safety re-inspections on vehicles to verify roadworthiness.
  • Address complaints from law enforcement and customers about vehicle inspections.
  • Attend training sessions to assess the effectiveness of certified instructors and confirm compliance with training curriculum.
  • Ensure contract adherence and safeguard exam materials.
  • Conduct instructor evaluations and create a supportive learning environment for training.
  • Participate in departmental hearings and court proceedings to testify about violations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
  • Cultivate and sustain productive relationships with inspection stations, vehicle safety inspectors, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Recommend training initiatives for vehicle safety inspectors and deliver training at accredited safety inspection schools.
