About the position

The Operations Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading and directing all aspects of production, packaging, quality, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, purchasing, administration, safety, and environmental compliance within the plant. This role ensures that quality and food safety standards are met, manages third-party regulatory audits, and fosters a food safety culture. The position involves developing operational policies, overseeing plant activities, managing personnel, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction in all areas of production, packaging, quality, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, purchasing, administration, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures related to plant operations.
  • Direct overall plant activities including production forecasting, scheduling, processing, packaging, and shipping.
  • Oversee plant flow to ensure effective procedures and financial efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement new production strategies for efficiency and product margin growth.
  • Maintain and upgrade plant equipment for daily functions and future production growth.
  • Conduct financial analysis, budgeting, and implementation for all plant operations.
  • Manage daily functions performed by managers and supervisors, including hiring, training, and evaluating job performance.
  • Ensure staff adherence to procedural protocols and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Establish high standards for managers and provide growth opportunities with regular feedback.
  • Assess promotions, salary increases, and terminations as needed.
  • Control personnel allocation to fulfill production schedules cost-effectively.
  • Conduct regular departmental meetings to enhance communication throughout the plant.
  • Collaborate with all managers and staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Implement plant safety programs and ensure compliance with HACCP, GMPs, and Quality Systems.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all business aspects.
  • Create procedural and safety compliance programs for third-party audits.
  • Develop and maintain effective recall procedures and process flows for goods.
  • Implement food security preventive measures and audit food ingredient handling and storage.
  • Work with accounting, sales, production, and warehouse to resolve customer service issues.
  • Manage ERP software and build weekly reports for production outputs and inventory levels.
  • Manage compliance programs such as Certified Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, Gluten Free, etc.
  • Develop weekly spreadsheets for production and packaging cost analysis with quarterly improvement goals.
  • Budget, source, and develop equipment within annual budgets.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a managerial role in a natural food production plant.
  • Knowledge of natural foods products and processing.
  • Ability to develop flow efficiency for manufacturing systems.
  • HACCP Certified.
  • Direct experience in managing HACCP, GMPs, Quality Systems, process improvements, and materials management.
  • Proficient in computer software systems including ERP and inventory management in food manufacturing.
  • Direct experience with product formulations and troubleshooting manufacturing issues.
  • Strong experience in scheduling manufacturing for over 50 SKUs.
  • Direct experience with food manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in team building and strategic leadership skills.
  • Experience managing managers and team members with positive reinforcement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultural boundaries.
