About the position

The Quality Assurance Specialist position at the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) involves a range of responsibilities focused on ensuring the quality and technical compliance of procurement processes. The role is designed for individuals who are capable of planning, organizing, and coordinating technical and quality procurement strategies for the acceptance of materials. The selected candidate will work in a developmental capacity at the GS-09 level, with opportunities to advance to GS-11 based on experience and qualifications. In this role, the Quality Assurance Specialist will develop individual workload strategies that support and exceed the Directorate's initiatives related to supplier operations. This includes conducting problem-solving activities to ensure the timely completion of processes related to quality and technical issues. The specialist will negotiate and coordinate complex technical and quality issues that pertain to supply quality assurance, providing both pre and post-award support to Acquisition Specialists, Engineering Support Activities, Military Services, and other agency customers. Additionally, the position requires support for various programs such as Order Fulfillment, Planning, and Finance. This includes establishing and maintaining Material Master data, managing interchangeability and substitutability requirements, and conducting item and inventory reduction studies. The specialist will also research historical and current data to identify discrepancies, incompatibilities, or redundancies, and initiate corrective actions as necessary. This position is critical in ensuring that the DLA meets its quality assurance standards and effectively manages its procurement processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and develop technical/quality procurement strategies for assigned materials.
  • Develop individual workload strategies to support Directorate initiatives involving supplier operations.
  • Conduct problem-solving related to quality/technical issues to ensure timely completion of processes.
  • Negotiate and coordinate complex Technical/Quality issues pertaining to supply quality assurance.
  • Provide pre and post-award Quality Assurance support to Acquisition Specialists and other agency customers.
  • Support Order Fulfillment, Planning, and Finance programs, including Material Master maintenance and inventory reduction studies.
  • Research historical and current data to identify discrepancies and initiate corrective actions.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in a related field.
  • For GS-09: Experience applying established techniques and regulations related to quality assurance functional programs.
  • For GS-11: Experience reviewing production activities for compliance with contract quality requirements and evaluating quality/inspection criteria.
  • Education from an accredited institution in fields related to quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, or engineering may substitute for experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the federal service or military related to quality assurance roles.
  • Knowledge of Defense Acquisition Workforce requirements and certifications.
