About the position

The Quality Assurance Supervisor at Jelly Belly Candy Company is responsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of a team of technicians and leads. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards, developing corrective actions, and maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The supervisor will work closely with cross-functional departments to uphold regulatory requirements and facilitate continuous improvement in quality assurance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, evaluate, and assist subordinates in their daily performance by setting goals and objectives.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support for a group of technicians and leads.
  • Adhere to and aid in the development and maintenance of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Work closely with cross-functional departments to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and food safety requirements.
  • Accountable for quality and food safety practices during operations.
  • Maintain holds and develop corrective actions (CAPA) using root cause analysis and monitor CAPA for effectiveness.
  • Manage the quality assurance team by scheduling in ADP, assigning tasks, and providing ongoing training/mentoring.
  • Facilitate monitoring of processes and procedures with production to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Initiate, track, and trend NCRs/CAPAs for all deviations.
  • Participate actively in scheduled food safety and facility GMP audits as part of the internal audit team.
  • Coordinate pre-op, post-op, and glass/brittle plastic inspections.
  • Act as a communication liaison between management and quality staff to support corporate and plant-driven initiatives.
  • Maintain the food safety plan and update SOPs as required.
  • Lead the food defense program for the shift, including audits and challenges.
  • Ensure training of associates at all levels on quality programs.
  • Perform and maintain the environmental monitoring program and product testing program.
  • Trend monthly KPI data for the Quality Manager and assist in preparing reports for senior leadership management.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • HACCP certification and GFSI audits experience such as FSSC ISO 22000 or SQF is a plus.
  • PCQI certification and Food Defense training is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP and Redzone.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.
