About the position

The Quality Assurance Technician I position is responsible for performing routine laboratory operations in a quality assurance setting, ensuring product consistency and compliance with established specifications. The role involves monitoring production processes, conducting various tests, and maintaining safety and hygiene standards in the laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory operations in a quality assurance setting.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative biological or chemical analytical tests according to standard procedures.
  • Monitor production processes and product consistency using sensory, weight control, and analytical methods.
  • Evaluate finished products for moisture, ingredient content, breakage, color, package fill, raw and finished weights, seal integrity, code date legibility, and overall quality.
  • Accurately perform and document all testing, including inspection of incoming raw materials and finished goods.
  • Utilize testing equipment for validation and/or calibration.
  • Communicate out-of-compliance situations to production employees and supervisors.
  • Adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines for housekeeping and personal protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and proper storage of laboratory supplies.
  • Execute and monitor the Food Safety Plan and Food Quality Plan as part of the SQF Program.
  • Identify and investigate out-of-compliance finished products and coordinate disposition with leadership approval.
  • Monitor raw materials storage and complete shift tailings.
  • Notify personnel of any abnormal findings.
  • Monitor metal detection validation and verification.
  • Audit allergen maintenance repair sheets and operator forms.
  • Conduct pre-op inspections of processing, packaging, and mixing equipment after product changeovers.
  • Perform plant sanitation verifications to ensure allergen-free equipment.

Requirements

  • BS in Science
  • 1+ years working at a food facility in a technical role
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills
  • Ability to learn and apply effectively
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Mandatory overtime may be required.
